Our entry for a school design competition in Senegal, where we were selected as semi-finalists, focused on building with locally available materials such as Typha and rammed earth. The design is shaped around shaded structures that naturally create shared gathering spaces, encouraging interaction and community. Bamboo columns and lightweight roofs define the built form, while cross-ventilation is ensured in every classroom. At the heart of the scheme lies a central play and gathering space, designed as a vibrant core for children to learn, interact, and grow.
